Captur SUV was never as successful as French automaker Renault has hoped it would be. Now keeping the new safety rules in mind, the company has updated the Captur line-up with new standard safety features. Apart from this safety update, the company has also revised the prices of its compact SUV offering in order to make the Captur more attractive for the buyers in the market. The starting price for 2019 Captur is now Rs. 9.5 lakhs, which is about half a lakh less as compared to the older prices.

Renault Captur is sold by the French car maker in 4 trims. The compact SUV is offered in petrol as well as diesel options, and there are two trims in each variant. The top model trim of Renault Captur is priced as Rs. 12 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. Whereas the base model for diesel variant is priced at Rs. 10.5 lakhs and the top model comes in at Rs. 13 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi. This makes the Renault Captur actually cheaper than the best-selling rival Hyundai Creta, cheaper by around a lakh to be precise. However, despite the good design of the SUV, the Captur has been a very slow seller, so much so that the comparatively older SUV Renault Duster still sells more units than the Captur. The discounts have also not saved the compact SUV as hefty discounts too have failed to raise the profile of the Renault compact SUV in the market.

As far as the specs of the Renault Captur are concerned, the company offers the compact SUV in petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol engine is a 1.5L -4 cylinder engine rated to deliver a maximum of 104 Bhp and 142 Nm. Talking of the diesel option, the engine here is a 1.5L K9K turbo diesel engine rated to deliver a maximum of 108 Bhp and 240 Nm. The petrol engine comes paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox and the diesel engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The company does not offer the option of an automatic transmission on any of the engine options. As far as the drivetrain is concerned, the Captur comes with a simple FWD layout that is common offering in the segment.

With the new safety upgrade, the Renault Captur now has dual Airbags, Antilock-Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Rear parking sensors, driver and co-driver seat belt reminder and speed alert as a part of the standard offering on the compact SUV. The French automaker’s compact SUV now comes with a new 17.4 cm touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Car Play and Android Auto support, apart from this the new infotainment system also offers eco guide, voice recognition and navigation. The lack of an automatic gearbox option further deters the customers from buying the Captur, although the company is said to be working on an automatic transmission option, no launch date has been announced yet.
