The new-gen Hyundai i20 has been spotted as a test mule on Delhi roads for the first time after the lockdown in the country. The new hatch was supposed to have its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show but it got cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The new-gen 2020 Hyundai i20 is expected to launch in the Indian market during the festive season of October-November this year. As per the spy images, the test mule was spied with halogen headlamps instead of the LED headlamps which we had seen with the international model. Though, it appears quite identical to the Europe-spec model with redesigned bumper and air inlets. The hatch rides on newly-designed alloy wheels while the rear end boasts of Z-shaped LED tail-lamp cluster. The new-gen 2020 Hyundai i20 has grown in size too as it is bigger than the current model which also means that interior space has increased. Some of the key features in the cabin will include horizontal AC vents, premium Bose sound system, ambient lighting, wireless charging and new multi-function steering wheel. It is believed that the South-Korean automaker might equip the Indian model with an all-digital instrument cluster.

Unlike the European model which features a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, the India-spec model will get an 8-inch unit which will be compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Mechanically, the new-gen 2020 Hyundai i20 is expected to borrow engines from the Venue sub-compact SUV. It might be offered with all the three BS6 compliant engines: a 1.2L petrol with 83bhp and 115Nm (5-speed manual), a 1.5L diesel with 98bhp and 240Nm (6-speed manual) and a 1.0L turbocharged petrol unit with 118bhp and 170Nm (7-speed DCT automatic). The i20 diesel variants might also get an automatic gearbox. Though, Hyundai is not keen on introducing the high-performance N variant of i20 in India unlike global markets where it comes with a 201bhp 1.6L turbocharged petrol engine.
