In a sudden development, Volvo S60 has been launched in the Indian market by the Swedish automaker ahead of its expected introduction on January 21, 2021. The new Volvo S60 now retails at an introductory price of Rs 45.90 lakhs (ex-showroom), India. The Third Generation S60 was unveiled in November last year and becomes Volvo Cars India’s first launch of 2021. Online bookings have commenced for the premium sedan with deliveries scheduled to begin from March 2021. For early buyers, the automaker is offering a complimentary membership to the exclusive 'Tre Kronor Experience' program. The 2021 Volvo S60 competes against the likes of BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the newly launched Audi A4 Facelift in the Indian market.
The car is based on Volvo's Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform. Plus, it scored an impressive 5 Star Safety Rating from Euro NCAP. The new S60 is equipped with safety technology and an infotainment system which present in the top-end 90 Series and the XC60 models. Talking about the exterior updates, the redesigned front flaunts a striking chrome-finished grille and signature Thor's Hammer LED headlights. Towards the rear, one can spot C-shaped taillamps. It rides on 18-inch multi-spoke diamond-cut alloy wheels in a black colour scheme.
Moving on to the interiors, the cabin boasts of a vertically mounted premium 9-inch Sensus Connect touchscreen infotainment system with compatibility for Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, wireless charging, premium 600 watts/14 speaker Harman Kardon sound system and voice recognition technology. In terms of safety features, it provides seven airbags, park assist camera, city safety assist, run-off mitigation, oncoming lane mitigation among many others. To avoid potential collisions, the manufacturer has also added auto brake technology to the S60. As per Volvo, it is the only system in the market which helps the car to detect pedestrians, cyclists, and large animals.
2021 Volvo S60 is powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine which gives out performance figures of 187 bhp power output and 300Nm of peak torque. The engine comes paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Currently, there are no diesel or hybrid models available unlike in the international market.
