Kia Motors had globally unveiled the fifth-generation Sportage SUV last month. The South Korean automaker had already revealed the exterior and interior details of the SUV during the global premiere. But now the company has revealed the mechanical details and safety features.
Performance-wise, the all-new SUV gets a 1.6-litre four-cylinder TGDI engine that churns out a maximum power of 179 bhp and a peak torque of 265 Nm. The motor is further linked to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox or a 6-speed manual gearbox. In addition, it also gets a new R2.0-liter diesel engine that generates 182 bhp power and 416 Nm of torque. The motor is paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
The all-new Sportage comes equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) technology with high torsional rigidity and Highway Driving Assist. The safety kit further comprises driver airbag, side-curtain airbags, passenger airbag, low-side airbags, navigation-based smart cruise control, blind-spot view monitor, blind-spot collision avoidance assist, and remote smart parking assist.
The new Kia Sportage debuts Kia’s E-handling system which enhances the dynamic performance of the vehicle along with improving agility & stability. The SUV further comes with a new electric control suspension for better damping control. Furthermore, it also comes equipped with an electronic 4WD system for optimal power distribution between the front and rear wheels depending upon the road conditions and driving situations. This does not end here as the new Sportage also offers advanced Terrain mode which automatically adjusts the vehicle’s settings for difficult road terrain.
The all-new Kia Sportage is the first model from Kia to be available in long-wheelbase and short-wheelbase variants depending on the region. Design-wise, it is based on Kia’s new design language - Opposites United. Upfront, it features a black grille graphic flanked by Kia’s modern signature Tiger Nose grille. In addition, the SUV gets matrix LED headlamps along with boomerang-shaped LED DRLs. On the side, the vehicle gets taut lines and a chrome belt line. The rear end boasts of slim horizontal tail lamp cluster, a spoiler, and a large lower graphic bumper casing. The new Sportage further offers 17-, 18-, and 19-inch wheels with a choice of seven different alloy designs, colors, and finishes. In terms of dimensions, the all-new Kia Sportage stands at 4660mm in length, 1865mm in width, and 1660mm in height. It further gets a boot space of 637 litres. The range-topping X-Line variant comes with a unique bumper design along with side sill and curved roof rack which further distinguishes it from the regular variants of the SUV.
Moving inside the cabin of the fifth-generation Kia Sportage, it comes equipped with a plethora of features. These include a slim crush touchscreen pad with an advanced integrated controller and an ergonomic centre console finished in a high-end gloss. It further comes with storage, cup-holders, operating system configuration, and soft-touch switches. Talking about the top-end X-Line trim, customers get to choose between a signature sage green or black seating along with bold quilting and black metal wood.
