Bajaj Auto India would start the deliveries of Chetak electric scooter from Q3 2020, reports pluginindia. This was conveyed to the customers who had booked the scooter via an email by Bajaj. The delay in the deliveries which were to commence from June, has been due to the suspension of production at the company's production facility in Pune because of national lockdown announced by the Prime Minister of India. The Indian PM Narendra Modi announced a 21-day complete lockdown from March 25 to April 14 due to the CoronaVirus pandemic, which was further extended to May 3.
The bookings for Bajaj Chetak electric scooter started on January 15, 2020 and the company had registered over 2000 orders in just 15 days. The company had announced to initiate the deliveries of all the units booked until February 29 from June 2020. But, now they have been pushed to September 2020. However, the company was able to deliver a very few units before the lockdown was announced. Bajaj Chetak has made a comeback after 14 years, albeit in an electric avatar. It was introduced in two variants: Urbane and Premium. The former boasts of drum brakes with availability in two colors - Citrus Rush and Cyber White - while the latter is equipped with a front disc brake and rear drum brake with four color schemes: Velutto Rosso, Indigo Metallic, Hazelnut, and Brooklyn Black.
Bajaj Chetak electric scooter is presented in a full metal body with all-LED lighting. It also features sequential pattern turn signals at the rear while an all-digital LCD instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity is also offered as standard. Getting a keyless ignition system, it draws power from a IP67-rated 3kWh battery pack. This battery pack delivers 5.3bhp of top power and 16Nm of peak torque to the electric motor. It has a company claimed driving range of 95 kilometers while the battery pack takes around five hours of time to fully charge it. Bajaj Chetak electric scooter is at loggerheads with the TVS iQube and Ather 450X in the Indian market. The Urbane variant was priced at Rs 1 Lakh while the Premium variant came at a price of Rs 1.15 Lakhs (Both prices are Ex. Showroom).
