BMW Motorrad has issued a voluntary recall for the 2024 K 1600 GT, R 1250 RT, and K 1600 GTL motorcycles in the United States. The company announced that there is an issue with the front suspension strut that might cause the motorcycle to become unstable. This can result in an accident and a loss of control.

According to the recall document, the affected motorcycle's Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA) strut is the source of the problem. It's possible that the damper valve equipped in the suspension struts may have been constructed using materials of incorrect specifications. This could cause the valve to gradually unscrew itself, resulting in inadequate or inaccurate damping. This could further affect the impacted bike’s stability while riding at high speeds or over uneven terrain, perhaps leading to a serious accident. However, the two-wheeler giant confirmed that, so far, the company has not registered any incidents caused by the defective suspension struts.

The OEM declared that it has identified the batch that needs to be fixed. The brand has already instructed its dealerships to examine the affected models and make the changes that are necessary to fix the issue. The auto giant will notify the owners of the bikes to get their affected motorcycles fixed at their nearest service centres.

BMW Motorrad retails some of these bikes on the Indian market as well. As of now, the brand has not issued any recalls for these bikes in the country. In India, the BMW R 1250 RT comes at a price of INR 24.95 lakh (ex-showroom), whereas the K 1600 GTL comes at a price of INR 33 lakh (ex-showroom).
