The French auto manufacturer Citroen has announced that the Basalt Coupe SUV will be launched in the Indian market on August 9, 2024. The SUV was scheduled to launch today, but because it was clashing with the new Tata Curvv EV coupe, the auto giant decided to postpone the launch event. The new Basalt Coupe will compete with the Tata Curvv ICE, which is scheduled to be launched on September 2. It will also rival outgoing mid-size SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Toyota Hyryder, and more.
The new Basalt Coupe SUV shares similarities with the popular C3 Aircross. It is loaded with V-shaped LED DRLs, a set of projectors, a signature Citroen logo, and a split headlamp design. The Citroen Basalt sports a coupe-like roofline, a twin-tone rear bumper followed by a silver skid plate, large wraparound taillights, a shark-fin antenna, and a black roof. The SUV has around 470 litres of cargo space at the rear.

Citroen will offer the Basalt Coupe SUV with a range of advanced features like a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, wireless support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a seven-inch all-digital driver display, a wireless charging pad, automatic climate control, auto-folding ORVMs, and more. For safety, the upcoming model will get six airbags, a hill-hold assist, ESP, and a tyre pressure monitor. However, the car misses out on advanced safety features like a panoramic sunroof, power front seats, ventilated seats, and an ADAS suite.
The Citroen Basalt will be offered with two powertrain options. One is a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that churns out a power of 81 bhp and a peak torque of 115 Nm. The second is a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol unit that generates around 108 bhp and a peak torque of 190 Nm or 205 Nm. The units will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed automatic option. Citroen entered the Indian automotive market in 2021. The company’s Indian lineup includes models like the C5 Aircross, the C3 hatchback, the C3 Aircross, and the all-electric eC3.
