Volvo has been running in the headlines recently after announcing the fastest-charging EV sedan from the brand, Volvo ES90. This is claimed to be a flagship EV sedan with better charging and running efficiency, AI features, advanced safety, and performance.
The new EV sedan will likely launch globally on 5th March 2025. The fast charging feature of this car stands out in the market as it's only found in premium EV cars. The Volvo ES90’s expected price is Rs. 1.1 crore (ex-showroom).
Volvo ES90 is the Fastest-Charging Volvo EV
The biggest highlight of the Volvo ES90 is its 800-volt architecture. This enables ultra-fast charging for this flagship EV sedan.
This technology is typically found in high-end EVs like the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT. The highlights of fast charging include:
- Supports 350 kW fast charging
- 300 km range in just 10 minutes of charging
- 10 to 80% charge in just 20 minutes
- Claimed full-charge range of up to 700 km (WLTP cycle)
These numbers suggest that the ES90 is going to be one of the fastest-charging and longest-range luxury EVs in India.
Volvo ES90 Looks and Design
This new electric sedan has a futuristic and sustainable design. The Volvo ES90 looks similar to the EX90 SUV.
It features a closed-off grille, Thor’s Hammer LED headlights, and vertical tail lamps. It's said to be made of sustainable materials.
It has 29% recycled aluminum, 18% recycled steel, and 16% recycled polymers and the interior has FSC-certified wood trim in the cabin.
Volvo ES90 is an AI-Driven EV
Volvo has always been known for its safety innovations. The ES90 takes this even further with an AI-powered tech stack and autonomous driving capabilities.
The car is fitted with dual Nvidia processors capable of performing 508 trillion operations per second (TOPS). It is accompanied by the Superset Tech Stack with Over-the-Air (OTA) updates.

Volvo ES90 Safety Features
This Volvo is built for safety. It takes it to a new level with advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and state-of-the-art sensor technology. It has a LiDAR box for real-time mapping, 12 ultrasonic sensors, eight cameras, and five radars.
Volvo ES90 Powertrain
The new electric sedan from Volvo combines high performance with efficiency. The ES90 is expected to come in two variants single-motor (rear-wheel drive) and dual-motor (all-wheel drive).
The battery pack of 111 kWh and the SPA2 platform is the same as that of the EX90. The car is expected to deliver 408 hp of power and 770Nm torque as standard.
