Ford Figo is all set to come equipped with a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox paired with the petrol engine. In the previous iteration, the automatic gearbox was paired with a larger displacement petrol engine. This time, the motor is borrowed from the Ecosport and will be paired with the existing 1.2-litre petrol engine.

When Ford Figo was launched way back in 2015, it was powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that generated 109 bhp power. The motor was further paired to a dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Moving on, when the facelift was launched in 2019, the automatic gearbox was replaced by a torque converter unit. Ford Figo, at this time, was powered by a more powerful 1.5-litre Dragon petrol engine. But with the advent of BS6 emission norms, this option was discontinued. Currently, the hatchback is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol unit that churns out 95 bhp power and 119 Nm peak torque.

Coming back to the new petrol-automatic engine-gearbox combination, it might be offered on the mid-spec Titanium trim of the Figo. At present, Ford Figo is offered in a total of three variants - Ambiente, Titanium, and Titanium Blu. Talking about the price, the hatchback falls in the range of Rs 5.85 lakhs - Rs 8.70 lakhs (ex-showroom). We can expect the automatic variants to cost a fair premium over the manual counterparts.

Apart from the new gearbox, no other mechanical or cosmetic changes are likely to be made on the new Figo petrol automatic. Feature-wise, the hatchback will continue to come with blacked-out grille, fog lamps, a set of 15-inch alloy wheels, charcoal black interiors, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, Ford Pass connected technology, semi-digital instrument cluster among many others. Once launched, the new Figo automatic will rival the likes of Maruti Swift and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios. Besides these, Ford is preparing to launch the updated Ecosport in the Indian market later this year.
