Genesis, the luxury sub-brand of Hyundai, has filed a trademark for the GV80 and GV80 Coupe luxury models in India. The South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor has been planning to bring Genesis to India for years. Now, Hyundai’s luxury sub-brand is expected to enter the Indian market with these two new SUVs. In October 2023, Genesis unveiled the updated versions of the GV80 and GV80 Coupe luxury SUVs in international markets.
The Genesis GV80 and GV80 Coupe versions are underpinned by Hyundai’s M3 platform and share the same design details. Both models feature an aggressive exterior with elements like a large pentagonal grille, LED taillights, and stacked LED headlamps. The GV80 Coupe rolls on massive 22-inch alloy wheels. The GV80 version gets a boxy silhouette, whereas the coupe model has a stylish sloping roofline with a windscreen.

Inside the cabin, the Genesis GV80 twins house a massive 27-inch display that features an infotainment system and digital instrument console. The models pack sleek-looking air-con vents and a lower set of buttons for the 3-zone automatic climate control. The Genesis GV80 and GV80 luxury SUVs also boast cruise control, a head-up display, wireless charging, a range of active and passive driver assistance systems, a 2-spoke steering wheel, and leather upholstery.
Genesis offers the GV80 twins with three engine options: a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine, a 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine, and a 3.5-litre turbo petrol unit. The powerful variants are powered by the 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine that generates power of 375 bhp and peak torque of 530 Nm. On the contrary, the standard variants draw power from the 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that is tuned to produce power of 296 bhp and peak torque of 422 Nm. The brand also offers a 3.5-litre turbo-petrol unit with a 48-volt electric supercharger. The engine generates 409 bhp of power and 549 Nm of peak torque.
If launched in India, the Genesis GV80 could rival the likes of the Audi Q7, Mercedes-Benz GLE, and BMW X5. Hyundai is going to have a busy year, as it has several models slated for the Indian market. These include the Alcazar facelift, which is expected to be launched this festive season, and the much-awaited Creta EV, which will make an appearance in early 2025. In addition, the automaker will unveil the Inster EV as its most affordable offering in India.
