The Indian automobile industry saw a record-breaking month in January 2025. Its sales figures broke previous records in both domestic and export sales. The total automobile units sold across all segments reached 19,35,696 units, jumping from 18,88,648 units in January 2024.
This growth indicates a promising future for the sector which is now backed by a favourable Union Budget 2025 and rising demand both in India and globally. The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has provided the data points for this story.
All-Time High Passenger Vehicle Sales
Indian consumers are buying more vehicles than ever before. January 2025 saw the highest-ever monthly passenger vehicle sales.
- Total domestic sales: 3,51,310 units
- January 2024 domestic sales: 3,39,441 units
- Year-on-Year (YoY) growth: 3.5%
This moderate growth suggests strong consumer confidence, better affordability, and a shift toward personal mobility. The tax relief in the Union Budget 2025 could boost this number in the coming months, especially in the entry-level car segment.
Record-Breaking Vehicle Export Sales
Indian-made vehicles are gaining global traction also. India shipped out 4,62,500 units of automobile in January 2025 which is a significant jump from 3,29,915 units in January 2024.
- Passenger vehicle exports: 57,585 units (Growth: 17% YoY)
- Passenger vehicle exports in Jan 2024: 49,245 units
- Two-wheeler exports: 3,80,528 units (Growth: 46.2% YoY)
- Two-wheeler exports in Jan 2024: 2,60,308 units
This two-wheeler export number suggests that Indian motorcycles and scooters are in high demand overseas.
