Maruti Suzuki has been working on a 5-door version of the Jimny for the Indian market. It has generated a lot of buzz amidst the auto enthusiasts ever since it was announced that Maruti Jimny will be introduced in a 5-door avatar in India with local production taking place at Gujarat facility. The India-spec Jimny 5-door is expected to launch by end of 2021 or early 2022 in the country. Ahead of the official launch, new details regarding the dimensions and engine specifications of the SUV have been leaked online.

Maruti Jimny 5-door will measure 3850mm in length which is precisely 300mm more than the standard 3-door version. It will be more or less similar to the Swift which measures at 3485mm. However, the width and height of the 5-door version will be similar to the 3-door unit at 1645mm and 1730mm, respectively. The increase in length will subsequently result in a 300mm longer wheelbase of 2550mm as compared to the original 3-door's 2250mm. Both will have identical ground clearance of 210mm while the 5-door version will be 100 kgs heavier than the 3-door version. Being based on the Jimny Sierra trim, Maruti Jimny 5-door will be sold via the NEXA premium range of dealerships in the Indian market.

Mechanically, Maruti Jimny 5-door will share the 1.5L 4-cylinder K15B petrol engine with the 3-door version with similar power output of 102bhp at 6000rpm and torque performance of 130Nm at 4000rpm. This is the same engine which powers the Ciaz, Ertiga, S-Cross and Vitara Brezza in the Indian market. It will be available with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard while a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission will be on offer as option. However, it is not known yet whether Maruti's smart hybrid fuel saving tech will be offered with the Jimny or not. Despite being less than 4-meters in length, the Jimny will not enjoy the lower excise benefits due to the 1.5L engine. However, if Maruti chooses to offer the 1.2L petrol engine with the Jimny, it could attract a really aggressive pricing.
