JSW MG Motor India has finally launched the much-awaited Windsor EV in the Indian market at an introductory price of INR 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). In the brand’s electric vehicle lineup, the all-new Windsor EV is positioned between the MG ZS EV and the MG Comet EV. The company’s first intelligent CUV (crossover utility vehicle), the Windsor, brings together the spaciousness of an SUV and sedan-like comfort.

The MG Windsor EV is named after the standard Windsor Castle. It is based on the Wuling Cloud EV, which is sold overseas, but with a different engine. Pre-bookings for the Windsor EV are now open in India, while test drives are scheduled to start on September 25, 2024. On the contrary, deliveries for MG’s new electric car will begin on October 12, 2024. The all-new Windsor EV is the company’s first offering since JSW purchased a partial stake in MG’s Indian subsidiary.

MG Windsor EV Exterior

Compared to other electric vehicles available in the Indian market, the Windsor EV features an unconventional AeroGlide design. It comes equipped with LED DRLs, a front-charging inlet, vertically stacked LED headlight units, flush door handles, a curved silhouette at the rear, and LED tail light units. The all-new Windsor EV rolls on 18-inch alloy wheels.

In terms of dimensions, the Windsor EV measures 4,295 mm in length, 1,652 mm in height, and 1,850 mm in width. The Windsor CUV has a wheelbase of 2,700 mm, which provides more rear seat space.

MG Windsor EV Interior

Inside, the MG Windsor EV features an all-black theme with copper inserts. It comes equipped with amenities like a floating 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an 8.8-inch driver display. It receives lounge-like reclining rear seats, which can be adjusted up to 135 degrees. There is heavy cushioning on almost all seats, providing more comfort.

Other features include powered front seats, automatic AC, an air filter, a 9-speaker Infinity sound system, rear AC vents, wireless phone charging, ambient lighting, and a panoramic glass roof. For passenger safety, the MG Windsor EV is loaded with equipment like six airbags, auto headlights, ABS with EBD, all four disk brakes, electronic stability control, front and rear parking sensors, an air-purification system, a 360-degree camera, and Level 2 ADAS.

MG Windsor EV Powertrain

The India-spec Windsor EV comes equipped with a 38kWh battery pack along with a single electric motor that can churn out power of 134 bhp and peak torque of 200 Nm. The battery setup provides a claimed range of up to 331 km. It can be charged from 0 to 80 kW in just 55 minutes. MG is now offering a new Battery as a Service (BaaS) program, and buyers will need to pay INR 3.5 lakh extra for the battery rental.

For the first year, MG India is providing free-of-cost public charging for customers through its charging network. Additionally, the first few owners of the new electric car will also receive a lifetime battery warranty.
