COVID-19 is one of the worst crisis the world has encountered since World War II. Millions of citizens infected plus thousands of deaths have pushed the countries especially developing  ones like India to a brink. India’s economy is severely damaged by the fall-out from the virus. It’s not just the economy that’s taking a hit, the Indian healthcare system is dealing with thousands of new Coronavirus cases every day. Helping the Governments at this crunch time are the Indian corporates who are pitching with funds and resources. Tata Sons Foundation recently donated 20 BS6 compliant Tata Winger ambulances and 100 ventilators to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. Chief Minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray, Mayor Kishori Pednekar and Tata Sons Boards Member N Chandra were present on the occasion. Tata Sons has also donated Rs 10 crore for setting up Immunology and Virus Infection Center to strengthen the fight against COVID19.

The ambulances delivered to BMC are based on the New Tata Winger unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo in February earlier this year. The ambulances are coming in two variants - 3200 WB and 3488 WB. Both the variants provide a single stretcher with a spacious interior.

Their interiors are redesigned to transform the Tata Winger into a mobile hospital. The ambulances are compliant with the AIS 125 Part 1 norms. The prime purpose would be to transport patients to hospitals with basic and advanced life support systems. As for the exterior, the paint job comprises of white-yellow-red colour scheme with a high roofline. These ambulances measures 4940 mm in length, 1950 mm in breadth and 2670 mm in height while offering a ground clearance of 185mm.
