Volkswagen recently launched the Tera SUV in Brazil and now the production for it has begun. It is one of the most affordable sub-compact SUVs from Volkswagen.
The exact date is not known but the car can launch in India by 2026 and it will likely compete with Tata Nexon and Maruti Brezza. The Indian model of the SUV is based on the identical MQB-A0-IN platform. Its price could range from ₹8 lacs to ₹15 lacs.
2025 Volkswagen Tera Production and Launch Details
Volkswagen has officially commenced production of the Tera sub-compact SUV at its facility in Brazil. The model set to be launched in India will be based on the MQB-A0-IN platform which also underpins the recently launched Skoda Kylaq.
The Tera is expected to arrive in 2026 as the brand’s new entry-level SUV offering.
2025 Volkswagen Tera Expected Price in India
The new model is expected to be priced between ₹8 lacs and ₹15 lacs (ex-showroom) in India depending on the variant and features. This places it in direct competition with models like the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, and Kia Sonet.

2025 Volkswagen Tera Design
The Tera’s design reflects the Volkswagen’s latest SUV styling and it draws inspiration from the Tiguan and the updated Taos. Here are some key design highlights:
- Single-slat grille with a bold VW logo
- Sweptback LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs
- Large air dam with a honeycomb-patterned bumper
- Blacked-out A and B pillars for a sporty appearance
- Roof rails and black alloy wheels
- Wraparound LED taillights connected by a black strip, reminiscent of the Nivus and T-Cross

The India-spec Volkswagen Tera will feature a 1.0-litre, TSI turbo-petrol engine that can produce up to 114 bhp of power and 178 Nm of torque. The engine will be available with a six-speed manual transmission and torque converter automatic transmission.
