Renault has announced that their upcoming MPV Triber will be unveiled in front of the public on 19 June. The MPV has already been spied several time during testing and the final unveil of the vehicle will take place just next month. The much awaited MPV from the brand will be an all-new car for the Indian market and will lock horns with the likes of Datsun GO+ and the rumored Maruti Suzuki WagonR 7-seater model. As far as the company’s line-up is concerned, the upcoming MPV will be placed between Duster SUV and Kwid hatchback in the line-up.
Based on the modified iteration of CMF-A platform, the actual launch of the MPV is supposed to take place sometime around the festive season this year. CMF-A (common module family-A) is the affordable platform that the French company came up with for developing markets. One can already find Renault Kwid and Datsun RediGo in the Indian market that are based on the same platform. The French automaker has also confirmed that their upcoming MPV will be small but will not be smaller than 4 meters. This will lead to higher tax on the upcoming Triber in the Indian market. This could mean that the upcoming Triber will be a value for money offering in the segment, just like the Datsun Go+ stationwagon, with a 5+2 seating pattern. However, unlike the Datsun Go+, the Renault Triber will offer more space in the third row.
The Triber will come with removable third row of seats which will in turn offer more flexibility to the users as they can carry luggage or passengers as per their wishes. Triber will also come with an upmarket interior which will give the users more premium feel as compared to other MPVs in the range. Likely features on the upcoming Triber will include a touch infotainment display with connectivity options and dual tone interiors as well as some propped up interiors.
Venkatram Mamillapalle the CEO & Managing Director of Renault India Operations spoke about Triber and stated,
“Innovation is a key pillar of our business strategy. While we have showcased our intentions and actions towards future mobility on a global scale, we have a strong innovation story in India as well. This is reflected by our clear product strategy to cater to newer and growing segments of India’s automotive market. Both Duster and Kwid created a strong legacy for the Renault brand in India. We will be launching an all-new car for India this year – Renault Triber, which is another testament to our focus on innovation. Renault Triber is a new car that’s been designed and developed for India. It will bridge the gap between KWID and our SUV offerings in India. With a unique body-style that cannot be classified into a simple category, Renault Triber will offer best-in-class space with first-of-its-kind modularity. We will continue on our innovation journey in India, to develop products that shape the future of India’s automobile transformation.”
Renault has still not disclosed the engine details of the Triber, although the car has been spotted during testing many times in India. However, there are rumors on the internet that indicate that the new MPV from French automaker could come only with a petrol engine. Renault could choose either the its Kwid’s 1.0-litre petrol engine or partner Nissan Micra’s 1.2-litre petrol mill. The AMT version of this upcoming MPV has also been spotted testing, therefore an AMT is sure to be offered with the car along with a manual gearbox.
