India’s leading SUV manufacturer, Tata Motors, recently launched the Curvv coupe SUV and Curvv EV in the Indian market. Both the ICE (internal combustion engine) and the all-electric Curvv coupe were recently subjected to the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP) crash tests, with both notching up full 5-star safety ratings for child and adult occupant protection.
Interestingly, the Curvv ICE, along with its fully electric version, is the fifth Tata Motors vehicle to get a 5-star safety rating; the previous one was Nexon, followed by Punch EV, Nexon EV, Safari, and Harrier. Both these models scored five stars for the adult and the child occupant protection.
Tata Curvv EV
The Tata Curvv EV received 30.81 points out of 32 in adult occupant protection from BNCAP, whereas in the child occupant protection test, it scored 44.83 out of 49. During the crash tests, the child restraint systems for the three-year-old and eighteen-month-old kid dummies were placed in the back seats with their faces facing backward.
As for the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the Curvv EV earned 15.66 out of 16 points. On the contrary, it earned 15.15 points out of 16 in the side movable deformable barrier test. In terms of child occupant protection, the EV received a dynamic score of 23.82 out of 24 and an installation score of 12/12, thus illustrating the great performance of the EV’s safety attributes.
Tata Curvv ICE
The Curvv ICE got 29.50 points out of 32 in the adult occupant protection crash test. In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, it received 14.65/16.00, and in the side movable deformable barrier test, it received 14.85/16.00. Notably, in child occupant protection, the Curvv ICE scored 43.66/49 in the static score, 22.66/24.00 in dynamic, and scored 12/12 in CRS installation.
Tata Curvv Safety Features
On the safety front, the Tata Curvv ICE comes equipped with TPMS, electronic stability control, a 360-degree camera, all disc brakes, Level 2 ADAS, and an electronic parking brake followed by auto hold. The Curvv EV, on the other hand, is also loaded with a range of advanced safety amenities as standard. These include six airbags, electronic stability control, ABS, three-point seat belts for all passengers, hill hold control, blind spot detection, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and Level 2 ADAS. The company offers the Curvv range with an E-Call and B-Call feature, which helps in case of a breakdown or medical emergency.
