Tata Motors, one of India’s leading automakers, has announced that two of its famous electric vehicles, the Tata Nexon EV and Tata Punch EV, have received five-star safety ratings in the recently conducted Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP) crash tests. Interestingly, these models are the first EVs to score the top ratings from Bharat NCAP. The Tata Punch EV and Nexon EV have scored five-star safety ratings for both child and adult occupant safety.

The Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP) was unveiled in 2022 by the minister of road transport and highways, Mr. Nitin Gadkari. By conducting Bharat NCAP crash tests, the government is aiming to improve road safety and provide customers with relevant information on vehicle safety. India’s own crash test programme encourages automakers to manufacture reliable and safe EVs for the market. The 5-star rating certification was awarded to the company by Nitin Gadkari.

The company offers the Tata Punch EV and Nexon EV alongside their ICE (internal combustion engine) variants. These models are manufactured on Tata’s Acti.ev platform. The homegrown automaker claims that it will produce various new EVs under the same platform in the coming years. The most-awaited Sierra and Curvv electric SUVs will also be based on the Acti.ev platform.
