It was only recently that the Indian maker launched the updated version of their best selling Tiago hatch with safety features standard across all variants. Now the company has launched the AMT automatic version of the crossover version of the Tiago hatch, the Tiago NRG. Tiago NRG was first launched in the market only in 2018 and now it has been updated with an automatic AMT gearbox. The automatic gearbox on the more rugged version of the hatch will be available only with the petrol engine option.
The prices for the AMT automatic version of the Tata Tiago NRG start from Rs. 6.14 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. The price for the AMT automatic variant has been naturally set higher than the manual petrol variant, the AMT version costs Rs. 45,000 more than the manual petrol model, but Rs. 40,000 less than the diesel version of the car. To let you know, the more rugged NRG variant of the Tiago made quite a splash in the market when it was launched and now that the maker is offering an automatic variant of the car with the petrol engine, the popularity of the car is bound to rise. However, the lack of the AMT automatic gearbox with the diesel engine will still hurt some diesel lovers.
Perhaps the reason behind the decision to not offer the AMT automatic transmission with the diesel engine could be the attempt to keep the prices of the car in check. As already stated, the diesel engine version without the AMT automatic gearbox costs Rs. 40,000 more than the AMT petrol version, hence equipping the diesel version with AMT box would have led to even higher prices. Apart from the addition of an AMT gearbox, there are no other changes on the Tiago NRG. The crossover car still comes with a 1.2L petrol engine rated to deliver 84 Bhp and 114 Nm. The diesel engine is a 1047cc turbo unit rated to deliver 69 Bhp and 140 Nm.
Tata is also planning to soon launch the facelift models of the Tiago and the NRG version of the hatch in the Indian market. The launch is likely to take place next month, but there is no concrete date as of now. The Tiago NRG now also comes with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. As far as the rivalry is concerned, the crossover-inspired hatchback from Tata locks horns with cars like the Maruti Suzuki CelerioX and Ford Freestyle in the market, two another crossover-hatchback offerings in India.
