Toyota Belta is inching closer to its official launch in India and while there is still some time left, it has been spotted undisguised in flesh. In the spy images shared by a team-BHP user, one can clearly see the rear end of the sedan. Toyota Belta will replace the Yaris sedan in the Indian market as it has already been discontinued due to dismal sales numbers. Being the third product to emerge from the Toyota-Suzuki partnership after Glanza & Urban Cruiser, it will be up against the likes of Maruti Ciaz, Honda City and Hyundai Verna.
Going by the spy-shots, Toyota Belta will flaunt the same rear profile as Maruti Ciaz except for the change in badging. The word 'Belta' stands for 'Beautiful', which is derived from the Latin term Belle. As far as Aussie slangs are concerned, Belta means a real cracker. Also, since the Yaris was already called Belta in several global markets such as Japan, China and Malaysia, it was relatively easy for Toyota to trademark this name and use it. The interior of the sedan is also expected on the similar lines as the Ciaz and almost identical features. The top-end variant could feature automatic climate control, adjustable front seats, cruise control and touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity.

Mechanically, Toyota Belta will be powered by the BS6 compliant 1.5L 4-cylinder K Series mild hybrid petrol engine which churns out top power of 103 bhp and peak torque of 138 Nm. This engine will be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard while a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission will be there as an option. As Toyota did with the Glanza and the Urban Cruiser, expect the Belta to come with a higher warranty package. Toyota Belta price could start at Rs 9 Lakhs and go as high as Rs 13 Lakhs for the range topping variant. The company could initiate the pre-bookings by the end of this month while the launch could take place next month with sales commencing from January 2022.
