TVS, a Chennai-based multinational motorcycle manufacturer, has recently filed new trademarks for two brand names, the TVS XL EV and E-XL. The two-wheeler maker is currently working on an electric variant of the famous XL 100 moped. The brand had also released design patent images of the motorcycle. The recent move suggests that the auto giant is all set to expand its EV range in the nation and is working on two new electric vehicles, and its TVS XL 100 could go all-electric in the coming days. The battery-powered model will rival the Kinetic E-Luna in its segment. The E-Luna was recently relaunched in the Indian market.
The two-wheeler giant has been selling the XL 100 in India for over four decades now. Over the course of its more than 40 years on the domestic market, this model has been updated several times to incorporate more modern technology and powertrains while maintaining its workhorse status. Currently, the XL 100 petrol version comes at a price range between INR 44,999 and INR 59,695 (ex-showroom).

TVS has updated the XL 100 motorcycle every now and then to meet different emissions and safety norms. The outgoing motorcycle houses several modern features, including electric start, LED DRLs, USB charging, and an engine kill function. The petrol-powered XL100 comes equipped with a 99.7-cc 4-stroke, single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine. The unit churns out 4.3 bhp of power at 6000 rpm and a peak torque of 6.5 Nm at 3500 rpm.
As of now, the auto giant has not shared many details about the all-electric XL moped. However, it is anticipated that the company will manufacture an all-electric powertrain while retaining the traditional workhouse design of the combustion engine moped. The XL electric moped is likely to come with the option of a split seat along with a detachable rear half for more haulage space.
After its arrival in the Indian market, the electric vehicle is expected to be placed above the petrol XL 100 version, but in terms of price, it could compete with the all-electric Luna, which is priced between INR 64,990 and INR 74,990 (ex-showroom).
