Vespa Electric Scooter launch in India is one of the most-talked-about topics for a while now. Everyone from buyers to dealers are interested in knowing the production model name and its launch date. Now, we have an update from the Piaggo India CEO and Managing Director Diego Graffi himself. In an online interaction with media persons, he revealed that the company plans to introduce an electric scooter based on the European spec Vespa Elettrica. The two-wheeler will be focused on the Indian buyer keeping their needs and preferences in mind. The manufacturer is still working towards the right powertrain for the upcoming electric scooter. Indian buyers would have to wait till early 2022 for Vespa electric scooter to debut in the country.
"We use our own design, own technology for our electric two-wheelers, and the same will be applied to the new Vespa electric scooter. We're looking at the right powertrain for the Indian market because we don't believe in sourcing the powertrain and technology from outside vendors," Graffi spoke on the decision about the upcoming electric scooter in India.
The European-spec Vespa Elettrica design is striking with elements like a circular headlamp, contrasting coloured air vents and curvy apron up front. Other notable highlights include alloy wheels, 4.3-inch fully digital instrument panel, among others. The rider can connect their smartphone through dedicated Vespa Connectivity mobile app. One can call and view text messages on the TFT screen. The scooter supports voice-activated commands thanks to an ear and mouthpiece mounted on the helmet. It comes with 2 riding modes namely Eco and Power. The former is suited for daily commutation while the latter delivers maximum performance.
Vespa Elettrica in Europe houses a 4.2 kWh battery sourced from LG Chem. It produces a maximum power output of 5.36 bhp and 200 Nm of peak torque. The battery charger stored beneath the seat takes just 4 hours to completely recharge. The electric scooter can clock a maximum speed of 70 kmph.
