In India, the automobile sector is the key contributor to drive the economic growth while it is also one of the biggest reasons for pollution. As the country proceeds towards an apocalyptic future, the Indian Government is now racing to switch to all-electric vehicles by 2030. Despite the challenges in the Indian market, electric vehicles are steadily gaining traction. Most of the automakers have now commenced the production of electric vehicles.

Everve EF1

Everve EF1

Everve Motors, a Pune based electric two-wheeler startup unveiled its first electric prototype, the EF1 at the Auto Show this year. Now the company is likely to launch it this month. The company is likely to price it around Rs 2 Lakhs (Ex-Showroom). Upfront, the scooter gets a U-shaped LED DRL and a round headlamp. The round-shaped side panels look quite chunky. It is further accompanied by a stepped seat. Other feature highlights include a TFT instrument cluster. Mechanically, the e-scooter will be offered with two motor options - a 3.3 kWh and a 5 kWh. Furthermore, it will come equipped with two removable lithium-ion batteries that together will offer a range of 100 kms. The underbone chassis present in EF1 aids in housing the removable batteries. The batteries can be charged in 5 hours using a conventional 5A socket along with a life span of 5 years. The company claims that the electric scooter EF1 accelerates from 0-60 kmph in 8.53 seconds. Once launched, the e-scooter will rival the likes of Bajaj Chetak and Ather 450X. 

EeVe Forseti

EeVe Forseti

EeVe Forseti electric scooter is likely to be launched in November this year. The scooter was unveiled at the Auto Expo 2020. It is expected to be priced at around Rs 80,000 (Ex-Showroom). The electric scooter gets a retro-modern design. Upfront, it gets a ‘classic’ round LED headlight. At the rear end, it will get an LED tail-light. Other notable features include keyless entry, GPS, geo-fencing, anti-theft mechanism, and a USB charging port. The electric scooter will get swappable batteries. It will offer a range of 90 kmph along with a top speed of around 100 kmph. Furthermore, the battery will come with a five-year warranty. The company claims that it can charge completely in 3-4 hours using a conventional charger. However, using the optional fast charger, it can charge up in 30 minutes. 

Ather 450X

Ather 450X

Ather 450X was launched in India at Rs 85,000 (Ex-Showroom) in January 2020. The deliveries of the scooter will begin from November 2020 in a phased manner with Bangalore and Chennai receiving the first set of scooters. By the first quarter of 2021, this 125cc scooter will be available in the rest of the cities. Ather Energy will also set up its fast-charging network across each city before the commencement of delivery. The feature highlight includes a 7-inch touchscreen equipped with e-sim for improved connectivity, Bluetooth, and WiFi compatibility. There is also an android -based OS for the dashboard supporting Google Maps and Spotify music. Ather 450X comes with a non-removable 2.9 kWh unit. It generates 27 Nm torque and goes from 0-60 kmph in 6.5 seconds. Furthermore, the battery goes from 0-80 percent in 3.25 hours in slow charging mode and in one hour in fast charging mode. It also features a new warp mode that allows the scooter to accelerate from 0-40 kmph in 3.29 seconds and from standstill to 60 kmph in 6.5 seconds.

Okinawa Cruiser was unveiled at the Auto Expo this year. The maxi-scooter is likely to be launched in the first quarter of 2021. It will fall in the price range of Rs 1-1.20 Lakhs (Ex-Showroom). The E-scooter comes equipped with a plethora of features. These include LED headlight & taillight, semi-digital instrument console, keyless start, anti-theft alarm, aluminum alloy wheels, USB charging outlet, and reverse assistance. The scooter also gets a mobile app with the ‘Find my scooter’ function in order to locate the scooter in the crowded parking area. The scooter is powered by a 4 kWh detachable Lithium-ion battery that offers a range of 120 km per charge. The battery can be fully charged in two-three hours. The Cruiser is regarded as one of the fast e-scooters in the country with a top speed of 100 kmph.
