Xiaomi Unveiled YU7 SUV As Rival Of Tesla Y Model

This is the latest expansion in the electric vehicle market for Xiaomi, with the introduction of the YU7 SUV. Set to compete as a direct rival to the famous Tesla Model Y, the successful Xiaomi YU7 SUV promises to be brewed in a high-performance package, as well as superior design and cutting-edge technology. The Xiaomi YU7 SUV comes with a cutting-edge design and dimensions that exceed those of the Tesla Model Y in nearly all considerations. Xiaomi SUV features a wheelbase of 4,999mm, which is longer than the Model Y by 248mm, thereby improving deck-and-headroom inside. It is also 1,996mm wide and 1,600mm tall, making it 3mm wider and 160mm taller than the Tesla rival.

Visually, Xiaomi YU7 SUV design highlights a silhouette similar to that of the last model from Xiaomi, the SU7 sedan; only now, the profile appears as transformed by large haunches, plastic cladding, and new alloy wheel designs-all SUV features. Other new things introduced in this SUV model include pop-up door handles that are flush, a blanked-off grille, and teardrop-style LED headlights. The Xiaomi YU7 interior also sports a roof hump, narrowing down groundlines-the evidence of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) that would possibly be LiDAR-powered.

The dual motors of the Xiaomi EV technology develop 299 hp for the front motor and 392 hp for the rear motor, which together give a total of 691 hp. This makes it even more powerful than the best version of the SU7 sedan. A maximum speed of 253 km/h further indicates the performance of the vehicle. This is slightly lower than the 265 km/h top speed of the lighter SU7 Max variant.

Now Xiaomi has partnered with CATL, which is the most promising battery supplier for Tesla, in regard to the battery supply for YU7. The estimation of the battery capacity is unknown so far but it is assumed to most probably be alike in specification with the 101kWh NMC battery for high-end SU7 models. Thus,  Xiaomi SUV battery options ensure long driving range which is expected from YU7, but because YU7 is heavier than the SU7 sedan, which boasts 830km on a single charge, the distance will probably be a little less than that.

The YU7 may also feature an entry-level rear-wheel-drive variant with LFP chemistry batteries, similar to those used in the SU7.
