The bike started as the Akula concept two years ago, and it is now this, the RR 310. The RR 310 shares an identical silhouette with the Akula concept. In production form, it's slightly less aggressive in terms of design. But despite this, it’s gorgeous to look at.
On the Outside
The face begins with bi-LED projector headlights that have been integrated neatly into the fairing and sit above a blacked out split beak. There's an Indian tricolour above the stylish windscreen. TVS says the RR 310 is the benchmark in aerodynamics (for an Indian motorcycle in this segment).
The bike looks gorgeous in profile, especially in red – it's also available in matte black. The bike comes fitted with a 11-litre fuel tank that is also well-styled. The tail looks dramatic, almost Panigale-like. Coupled with Omega-shaped LED tail-lamps and a '35 years of racing' decal, the tail looks stunning from every angle. TVS intends on this bike to have aspirational value.
How Does it Ride?
TVS knows everyone wants to own a fully-faired motorcycle but also knows that not everyone lives next door to a racetrack. The riding geometry for this bike is a good mix of sporty and comfortable. There’s ample room on offer, too. The rear-view mirrors offer good visibility and they're easy to adjust. The clip-on ‘bars, top-notch switchgear, feel solid to hold. The instrument cluster displays a speedometer, tachometer, gear position indicator, a fuel-efficiency read-out, range and a clock. The bike even comes with a Lap Timer mode – which you can set on the move by pressing the headlight pass switch. The bike also comes wth dual-channel ABS. The RR’s 312.2cc, single-cylinder, DOHC engine makes 34hp and 27.3Nm; and is also mated to a six-speed gearbox. TVS worked on the engine to ensure it offers a good mix of grunt and fuel economy.
Rid this bike quick and you'll realise that this is substantially more exciting than anything TVS has ever offered, before. The engine has a real premium aural note to it and the throttle feels responsive and easy to modulate. TVS says that the bike can hit 60kph in 2.93sec and a top speed just upwards of 160kph. The bike might not be the quickest, but it makes up for by being linear, tractable and progressive.
Should I Buy One?
Priced at ₹2.05 lakh (ex-showroom), the RR 310 is slightly cheaper than the KTM RC 390 (₹2.35 lakh) and is more expensive than bikes like the Bajaj Dominar ABS (₹1.56 lakh), the Mahindra Mojo (₹1.73 lakh) and the KTM 250 Duke (₹1.77 lakh). What you get for your money is a stunning motorcycle that’s contemporary, fast, comfortable and fun.
