About KTM

Ernst Kronreif in the year 1953 became a sizeable shareholder of Kraftfahrzeug Trunkenpolz Mattighofen which was then renamed to Kronreif and Trunkenpolz Mattighofen, and that is how KTM came into existence. KTM began serial production of R100 in the year 1954. At the start, KTM just had 20 employees where they would build 3 motorcycles per day. Soon after renaming the company, KTM won the first title during the 1954 Austrian 125 national championship.

Racing has always been a testing ground for KTM bikes’ production and technology approval. Having bagged a gold medal at 1956 International Six Days Trials, KTM started to produce scooter as well. The manufacturer’s first scooter was called Mirabell. In nearly 20 years, KTM’s workforce grew from 20 employees to 400 employees and 40 years after the inception, KTM now offers 42 different bike models around the world.
