About Ford

Ford is one of the most iconic automobile manufacturing companies. Headquartered in Michigan, Detroit, Ford came into existence in the year 1903. Throughout the 1900s, the manufacturer was involved in some of the biggest takeovers, collaborations and mergers. Ford is present throughout the world and works with a variety of companies including Troller and FPV in Brazil.

The American powerhouse has various ongoing joint ventures such as Changan Ford in China, AutoAlliance in Thailand and Ford Lio Ho in Taiwan. These are just a few of the examples of Ford’s widespread presence. Ford once owned Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo before selling them all to cope up with the deficit. The start of the 21st century brought various setbacks to the company, but the company is not giving upon its legacy. After a decade marred by losses, they finally registered profit in the year 2010 to cover up for a massive deficit of over $40 billion.

Talking about Ford car models in India, there are five active models in the market – Ford Figo, Ford Aspire, Ford EcoSport, Ford Endeavour and Ford Mustang. Ford Figo actively competes in the hatchback segment whereas EcoSport and Endeavour compete in the MUV and SUV segment respectively. Mustang, a muscle car stands alone as it does not have a massive competition in the Indian market due to lack of demand.

When it comes to Ford car prices in India, price range differs due to a diverse portfolio. For instance, an entry-level Figo starts at a price of INR 5 Lakh considering price after GST. Meanwhile, flagship Mustang costs in the ranges of INR 71 Lakh. However, MUV Ford EcoSport is the most popular car model in the current Indian market for the American manufacturer.

Recent news reveals that the manufacturer is looking to increase prices of the Ford car models by 4%. Ford’s executive director of Marketing, Sales and Service said that rise in commodity prices and rising freight costs are one of the few reasons for the price hike. The American manufacturer was absorbing a large part of this incremental cost and minimising the impact have summed the price at 4%, so Ford buyers do not have to pay hefty sum from their own pockets. For instance, if Ford EcoSport is priced at INR 7, 31,200 today, it will be priced INR 7, 61,200 at the start of 2018.
