Aprilia was founded after the Second World War in Italy. During the initial years, it only manufactured bicycles. The first motorcycle was introduced nearly two decades after the World War II in 1968. The first scooter that Aprilia ever produced was Amico – First all-plastic scooter in Italy made in the 1990s. Aprilia is a world-renowned brand when it comes to road racing. Their bike models compete at the highest level in motorsports. Aprilia is the most winning marques in road racing.

Piaggio and C. SpA acquired Aprilia in the year 2004. The acquisition led to the formation of world’s fourth largest motorcycle group with 1.5 billion Euro in sales. The mammoth turnover was possible mainly due to the production capacity of over 600,000 vehicles which were present in more than 50 countries.

Under new ownership, Roberto Colaninno became the president of Aprilia whereas Rocco Sabelli became the Managing Director of the company. The founder, Ivano Beggio became the Honorary President. Aprilia’s biggest achievement came in the year 2010 when it became the most successful racing brand in the history after surpassing MV Augusta. The sporting fever is seemingly spreading towards the scooter models as well with Aprilia’s newly introduced bikes.

Talking about the Aprilia scooters in India, Aprilia entered the Indian market with a 150cc scooter model which is the quickest among all the scooter models in India. The scooter model is not just the fastest but the scooter with highest engine displacement. SRV150 is tapping into the fastest-growing scooter segment. The Aprilia bikes are sold through Piaggio Motoplex showrooms that sell Vespa and Moto Guzzi.

Aprilia SR 150 The Aprilia SR 150 is equipped with a disc brake in the front and drum brake at the rear. The scooter consists of metallic black alloy wheels. A standard telescopic suspension is at the front while the rear gets a single-side coil spring. The headlamps are similar to Honda Dio wherein; the cowl is integrated into the front fascia. However, the indicators have been positioned on the handlebar. The Aprilia SR 150 is powered by a 150cc engine, which is similar to the Vespa S150. The 154 cc engine makes 11.4 bhp and 11.5Nm of torque. The new Aprilia scooter model, SR 150 is the most popular one. The model comes in three colour combination – Red and White, Red and Black, Red and Green. However, as of now, there is only one model we can focus on.

Aprilia scooters in India are manufactured at the company’s Baramati facility. Thus, the SR 150 is fully localised, it competes with models such as Vespa LX125, Honda Activa 125 and Suzuki Access 125.
