BMW Motorrad is preparing to launch the 2021 R 1250 GS adventure bike range in India. The bike maker has released a short teaser video which further suggests that the launch could be just around the corner. Going by the teaser video, it reveals the new R 1250 GS with the caption - “The King of Adventure is returning in a new avatar”. Moving on, the two motorcycles will be launched with an updated list of features, BS6 engines, and new color schemes.
Talking about the ‘40 years of GS color scheme’, it consists of Black and Yellow. This paint scheme marks the 40th Anniversary of BMW R Series motorcycles. The updated R 1250 GS will be sold in two color options - Triple Black and Light White, along with the 40th Anniversary livery. The R 1250 GS Adventure, on the other hand, gets the same Triple Black and 40th Anniversary colors. In addition, it also gets an exclusive color - Ice Grey.
Design-wise, the new R 1250 GS and GSA feature a new adaptive cornering LED headlight. It comes with a reflector that can swivel up to 30 degrees for improved visibility around the corners. The bikes might also get functionality like ‘Follow me home’ as an option. The German bike maker has also equipped the bikes with ABS Pro that prevents wheel lock and modulates pressure on both the brakes even at times when only the front brake has been used. The Hill Start Control Pro has also been improved. Other additional features include heated rider & passenger seats and heated grips that offer five stages of heat adjustment all controlled through the TFT instrument console.
Performance-wise, the motorcycles will continue to draw power from a 1254cc boxer-twin engine that churns out a maximum power of 136 bhp at 7750rpm and a peak torque of 143 Nm at 6250rpm. The motor is linked to a 6-speed gearbox. It further comes equipped with a variable valve timing system, which BMW calls ‘ShiftCam Technology’. Besides this, both motorcycles will get a new ‘Eco’ riding mode on offer which adjusts the ShiftCam system on the engine by flattening the throttle curve and reducing the torque to provide better fuel efficiency.
We can expect the updated bikes to be launched in the country in the coming weeks. As for the price, both the bikes will be slightly premium over their predecessors. Once launched, the R 1250 GS Adventure bike range will rival the likes of Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin.
