It is no longer a secret that Maruti and Toyota are jointly working on the development of an all-new mid-sized SUV. Being internally codenamed as D22, it has been spotted multiple times during test runs and the grapevine is abuzz with reports that claim it to be named as 'Toyota Hyryder'. The compact SUV is directly aimed at Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos while it will undergo production at Toyota's plant in Bengaluru. The Toyota facility in Karnataka will also look after the production of the Maruti-badged model.
Toyota had filed a trademark for 'Hyryder' a few weeks back and now a Zigwheels report confirms that it has been chosen for the all-new compact SUV. Despite being shared with Maruti Suzuki, Toyota Hyryder will have a plethora of visual differences. Underpinning a localized version of the TNGA-B architecture, it will be equipped with a first-in-segment self-charging hybrid setup alongside a 1.5L 3-cylinder petrol motor which comes with the Yaris Cross. The features onboard could be ventilated front seats, wireless charging, automatic climate control, 360-degree camera and a massive touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto. It could be unveiled as early as June 2022 while going on sale in the subsequent months.
