Hyundai Motor India, one of India’s leading manufacturers, has issued a voluntary recall for its tech-loaded Ioniq 5 electric car. The automaker had to recall the Ioniq 5 to rectify a potential malfunction in the car’s Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU). This recall has affected over 1,744 units of the Ioniq 5 EV, and these models were constructed between July 21, 2022, and April 30, 2024. The company introduced the Ioniq 5 in India at the Auto Expo in January 2023. The EV was unveiled as a completely knocked down (CKD) unit. Interestingly, all the Hyundai Ioniq 5 models have now been affected by the recall.
The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) aids in powering electric components in the car, including the infotainment system, air conditioning, and seat ventilation. The ICC unit works as a converter to reduce the high voltage from the car’s main battery pack to the secondary 12V battery. The auto giant has announced that it will rectify the faulty unit integrated into the Ioniq 5 models free of charge. The Ioniq 5 owners are advised to contact their nearest Hyundai dealership to inspect if their car is part of the recall. Hyundai will also reach out to Ioniq 5 owners via different communication channels. This new initiative has been taken by the brand to provide its customers with a seamless service.

In the Indian market, Hyundai’s flagship electric car, the Ioniq 5, is priced at INR 46.05 lakh (ex-showroom). Hyundai offers the Ioniq in one variant, and it is being sold with the famous Kona EV. The Ioniq 5 houses a range of advanced features, such as a dual 12.3-inch display, a wireless phone charger, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, and dual-zone climate control. In terms of safety features, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 packs six airbags, a 360-degree camera, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), and electronic stability control (ESC).
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 draws power from a 72.6 kWh battery pack that is mated to an electric motor. The unit is tuned to produce a peak power of 215 bhp and a maximum torque of 350 Nm. The battery pack integrated into the electric car provides an ARAI-certified range of up to 631 kilometers on one charge. In its segment, the electric flagship car rivals the likes of the Kia EV6, Volvo XC40 Recharge, and BMW iX1.
