Hyundai India has discontinued the Santro hatchback in the country, claims a Rushlane report. Being the company's most affordable offering in the Indian market, Hyundai Santo was available in six variants namely Era Executive, Magna, Sportz, Sportz AMT, Sportz Executive CNG and Asta. The South-Korean automaker has phased out all the variants of the hatch except Sportz CNG which means that all the petrol variants will not be available for sale and only the CNG variant can be purchased. Hyundai has told the dealers to accept bookings for the discontinued variants only if they have them in stock.
The skyrocketing fuel prices could have propelled Hyundai to discontinue the petrol variants and focus more on the factory fitted CNG variant. Also, the production constraints in the present scenario could have been one of the factors for Hyundai to pull the plug on the petrol variants. So, it clearly means that from now onwards, the Santro will be a CNG only model in India. Hyundai Santro CNG is powered by a 1.1L MPI petrol engine which delivers power output of 59 bhp and peak torque of 85 Nm as compared to the petrol only version's 68 bhp and 99 Nm. It is linked to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Though the petrol only variants also had an option of a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
