Kawasaki India has formally discontinued the Ninja 400 motorcycle in India. The two-wheeler giant launched the Kawasaki Ninja 500 in the Indian market in February this year. The Ninja 500 was launched as a successor to the 400 version. However, the brand continued to sell the Ninja 400 to clear inventory. Now, the Ninja 400 has been discreetly removed from the company’s official website. In a bid to clear the remaining stock, Kawasaki had offered discounts on the motorcycle leading up to its discontinuation.

In the Indian market, the automaker retailed the Ninja 400 as a CBU (completely built unit), and it came at a price tag of INR 5.24 lakh (ex-showroom). Interestingly, the recently launched Ninja 500 is also available at the same price. The automaker had been selling the Kawasaki Ninja 400 in India for a few years. The bike was expected to replace the Ninja 300 in the company’s lineup.

The made-in-India Ninja 300 motorcycle is priced sensibly, whereas the 400 version shares its price with the Ninja 500, which is why the automaker has discontinued it in India and in global markets as well. Kawasaki manufactured the parts of the Ninja 300 locally, thereby lowering its price over time and making it more accessible to a wider audience. However, the same strategy was not used for the Ninja 400.

The Kawasaki Ninja 400 was powered by a 399-cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine that generated 44 bhp of power at 10,000 rpm and 37 Nm of peak torque at 8,000 rpm. The unit is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

The 2024 Kawasaki Ninja 500 draws power from a 451-cc liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine. The same unit is also equipped in the new Eliminator. It comes with enhancements in low-end power delivery. The engine churns out a power output of 45 bhp at 9,000 rpm and 42.6 Nm of torque output at 6,000 rpm. It is mated to a six-speed gearbox. The newly launched Ninja 500 rivals the likes of the KTM RC 390, Yamaha YZF R3, and Aprilia RS 457.
