Royal Enfield is set to launch the much-awaited Classic 650 Twin in India in January 2025. Unveiled at the Motoverse 2024 event earlier this month, the retro-styled motorcycle is expected to be the new flagship model in the classic series. Next to the Scram 440 is the new Guerrilla 450 colourway.

Retro Design with Modern Touches

The Classic 650 Twin takes design inspiration from its younger sibling, the Classic 350 while delivering a more muscular and sleek look. The bike features LED headlights, a teardrop fuel tank, 43 mm Showa front forks and twin shocks at the rear in body-matched colours. Classic styling features such as dual chrome air vents and a wide rear fender give it a good classic appeal, yet wire-spoke wheels retain its retro look.

The motorcycle is offered in four striking colours: Teal, Vallum Red, Bruntingthorpe Blue and Black Chrome, hence offering a blend of timeless and modern style.

Engine and Performance

The Royal Enfield Classic 650 Twin is powered by the brand's proven 648cc parallel-twin engine, which is also available in the Interceptor, Continental GT and Super Meteor models tuned to deliver 46.3 bhp and 52.3 Nm of peak torque, and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch. This design provides a comfortable ride and adaptability to both urban and rural environments.

With a kerb weight of 243 kg, the Classic 650 is the heaviest motorbike in the Royal Enfield lineup, highlighting its road presence and streamlined design.

Technology and Features

The Classic 650 Twin has several contemporary innovations to provide comfort and safety despite its vintage origins. There is an analogue instrument console with a digital readout, tripper navigation system, adjustable levers and full LED lighting. Braking duties are handled by disc brakes at both ends, with dual-mode ABS helping to provide reliable stopping power in a variety of conditions.

Although equipped, the Classic 650 Twin chooses to be simple compared to the more advanced offerings in the Royal Enfield 650cc lineup, emphasizing its classic ethos.

Pricing and Positioning

The Classic 650 Twin will be priced at ₹3.50 lakh (ex-showroom), placing it between the Continental GT 650 and Shotgun 650 in Royal Enfield's lineup. “This pricing structure aims to make the model affordable while retaining its premium position.”

With the launch, the Royal Enfield Classic 650 Twin will not only compete with internal models like the Super Meteor 650 and Shotgun 650 but also other retro-style motorcycles like the recently launched BSA Goldstar 650 Its combination of nostalgic design and impressive performance will be appealing to Royal Enfield enthusiasts and new customers yet there is an expectation.
