A couple of months back, we informed you about the American electric carmaker Tesla's entry in the Indian market. The company was scouting for commercial spaces in Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai to open dealerships. Now, Tesla Model 3 - the company's entry-level offering - has been spotted testing undisguised in Pune. It has been learnt that the electric brand has imported three units of the Model 3 for testing purposes and it is one of them. The Model 3 test mule spotted in Pune wears a blue exterior color.
Initially, Tesla intended to begin sales and operations by mid 2021 in India with Tesla Model 3 but the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic played spoilsport and now we have to wait till the end of this year to see a Tesla running on Indian roads. The company has already registered its Indian arm 'Tesla India Motors & Energy Pvt. Ltd.' in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The headquarters could be in Mumbai which is also termed as the financial capital of India. Recently, Tesla also hired its top leadership team for the Indian market by announcing the appointment of Manuj Khurana as Policy and Business Development head. An IIM Bangalore alumnus, Khurana has worked with brands like John Deere, Accenture and Invest India in the past.
Tesla also appointed Nishant - former head of business development and government relationships at Ather Energy - as the country head for charging infrastructure. In addition, Chithra Thomas, ex-Reliance VP and Head of HR, was announced as HR head for Indian operations. Speaking of Tesla Model 3, it comes with a driving range of 354-523 kilometers on a single charge. The sedan does a 0-97kmph sprint in merely 3.2-5.6 seconds. The range-topping high-performance variant comes with a top speed of 261kmph. In global markets, Tesla Model 3 competes against the likes of Mercedes C-Class, Audi A4 and BMW 3-Series. It would be interesting to see Tesla Model 3 price in India upon its launch.
