Yamaha Motor India is planning to enter the small-capacity adventure motorcycle segment. The Japanese brand has filed a trademark application with the name ‘Yamaha FZ-X’ in India recently. It is being speculated that this name could be for a new adventure motorcycle based on the Yamaha FZ25 series.
FZ25’s platform is relatively new and quite affordable. It is basically versatile enough to be used for an adventure bike. Talking about the bike’s engine, it is pretty good for adventure bikes due to its simple construction and low torque. Furthermore, the platform sharing will also help the brand to set the price for the upcoming new Yamaha FZ-X Adventure bike more competitively. Coming back to the 250cc engine, it currently underpins Yamaha FZ-25 and FZS-25. The upcoming adventure bike might borrow certain design cues from the naked street racer twins. In terms of design, the FZ25 features an all-LED headlamp with LED DRL. In addition, it offers a new engine cowl, side stand with engine cut-off switch, multi-function LCD instrument console among many others. The upcoming Yamaha adventure motorcycle might come equipped with Yamaha’s new Bluetooth connectivity feature and switchable ABS.
It is quite early to comment on the engine specification of the new bike. However, we can expect it to share its powertrain with the FZ25. Talking about the Yamaha FZ25, it draws its power from a 249cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled SOHC engine that churns out 20.6bhp power and 20Nm torque. The motor is linked to a 5-speed gearbox. We can expect the suspension setup to be a little different in the case of this new upcoming bike.
As for the pricing, the Yamaha FZ-X is likely to bridge the gap between Hero Xpulse 200 and Royal Enfield Himalayan. Although it will be feature loaded, we can expect it to be affordable than the KTM 250 Adventure. More details about the bike are likely to be revealed in the coming time.
