Yamaha, a leading motorcycle manufacturer, is planning to discontinue its iconic bike, the YZF R1. The automaker is also planning to discontinue the racing version of the motorcycle, the R1M. The brand will call off the production of the legendary R1 motorcycles in the first few months of 2025. The automaker has announced that it is stopping the production of the bike due to ever stricter emissions standards for motorcycles, which present a significant obstacle for producers of high-performance bikes such as the R1.

For many years, the R1 has been a symbol of the brand’s engineering expertise and unrelenting commitment to the pursuit of motorcycle perfection. Yamaha will not make any more investment in creating new R1 versions due to the upcoming emission rules. The YZF R1 was first launched in 1998, and the bike changed people’s perception of big bikes in India. The bike has aggressive styling, a robust engine, and the ability to handle corners efficiently. The R1 has been updated by the manufacturer several times so that it will compete with the Italian and German models.

The Yamaha R1 comes equipped with bi-LED headlamp units, a 17-liter muscular fuel tank, a tall windscreen, a side-mounted exhaust, a low-slung handlebar, a sleek LED taillamp, and a split seat. For rider safety, the bike features disc brakes on both wheels, an IMU-based traction control system, and dual-channel ABS. Powering the bike is a 998-cc, inline-four engine that produces 197 hp of power and a peak torque of 112 Nm.

Yamaha is anticipated to unveil a new flagship model, named the R9. The bike is expected to feature cutting-edge technology, and it will carry forward the legacy of the previous model.
