A lot of mass market bikes have seen price cuts across the board, however, premium motorcycles over 350cc are now more expensive.

Under the GST, bikes with engine capacities under 350cc get taxed at 28 percent, while those over 350cc face an additional 3 percent cess, effectively taking it to 31 percent. The previous tax for two-wheelers was 30.2 percent, which means smaller capacity bikes face lesser tax and there is a marginal increase for higher capacity ones.

Royal Enfield

Ex-showroom prices have actually increased in Delhi, where they usually are the least. Depending on engine capacity, there’s a difference varying from a few hundred to a few thousand rupees. As ex-showroom prices have nearly equalized across the country, models under 350cc models have seen a price cut in some cities like Chennai.

Yamaha

Yamaha’s Models fall in the 28 percent GST bracket and the company has proactively updated its prices on its website. You can now check the new prices for all their models in all states on their official website.

Hero MotoCorp

The bikemaker’s price cuts vary from ₹400 to about ₹1,800. The benefits vary from state to state, depending on the pre-GST rates. Some of the company’s more premium bikes see a reduction of up to ₹4,000, depending on the location.

TVS

TVS’ commuter range sees a reduction in the range of ₹350 to ₹1,500, depending on the state. The company’s premium bikes like the Apache RTR 200 are cheaper by around ₹4,150, subject to which location you buy the bike from.

KTM

The company’s five offerings in India have seen price rises. The 200 Duke, RC 200, and 250 Duke, which fall under the 350cc category and attract 2 percent less tax under GST, have also seen their prices increase. The RC 390 costs Rs 5,797 more, making it the highest increase in the KTM range. The 2017 390 Duke sees a marginal increase of Rs 628.

Honda

The company’s top seller, the Activa 4G, is cheaper by only ₹442 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The CB Hornet 160R costs ₹724 less now. Some locations that faced higher taxes have seen Honda’s two-wheeler prices reduce by as much as ₹5,500.

Suzuki

Suzuki hasn’t released any numbers just yet, but the company is looking at a reduction in prices of its Indian-made bikes. The big imports such as the GSX-R1000 and V-Strom 1000, however, will see a rise in prices.

Indian Motorcycle

American bikemaker Indian Motorcycle is dropping its prices by upto 12 percent following GST. The Indian Scout is cheaper by ₹1.76 lakh while the Indian Dark Horse by ₹2.15 lakh. Prices for the Indian Classic Chief have reduced by ₹2.21 lakh and it now costs ₹21.99 lakh.
