Honda Cars India has announced that it will recall 41,580 of its cars made in 2012 to replace front airbag inflators that are made by airbag supplier Takata. The affected models include the Jazz, the City, Civic and Accord that were made in 2012.

The airbags will be replaced free of cost at Honda dealerships across India, and has even started a microsite where owners can find out if their car is among the affected model by typing in their car’s Vehicle Identification Number.

Just a fortnight ago, Takata agreed to pay ₹6,800 crore in penalties to carmakers using its airbags as compensation for people injured or killed by faulty airbags. At least 13 manufacturers are likely to announce recalls of its cars.

Earlier in 2006, Takata admitted that some of its airbag inflators expanded with too much force and even sprayed metal shrapnel into the cars. The company’s airbags were also known to deploy inadvertently, particularly in humid conditions.

This isn’t Honda’s first recall pertaining to airbags. In July 2016, the company called back 1,90,578 cars to replace the front passenger airbag inflators in its cars.
