Bangladesh Honda Ltd. (BHL) will set up a new motorcycle production plant and recently held a ground-breaking ceremony to mark the start of construction in Munshiganj District, Dhaka Division in Bangladesh.

The Minister of Industries, Amir Hossain Amu, MP, and other representatives from the Bangladesh government, as well as Hiroyasu Izumi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Bangladesh were present at the event. Honda reps at the event included Shinji Aoyama, Chief Officer for Regional Operations (Asia & Oceania) of Honda Motor Co, and Yuichiro Ishii, managing director and CEO of BHL.

The Bangladesh wing of Honda motorcycles began assembling bikes in 2013 at a leased plant facility. It currently assembles the CD80, Dream Neo 110, Livo 110, CB Shine125 and CB Trigger 150. BHL has now acquired 25 acres at Abdul Monem Economic Zone (AMEZ) in Munshiganj District, Dhaka Division. The plant is around 50km southeast from Dhaka, Bangladesh and the company has already allocated an initial investment of 2.3 billion Bangladesh Taka, equivalent to US$29 million, to buy the land and construct the premises.

The new plant is scheduled to start making bikes in the second-half of 2018, with an initial annual production capacity of 1,00,000 units.
