Royal Enfield is updating their lineup with ABS. The first bike to get ABS from RE in India was the Classic 350 Signals edition followed by the Himalayan. Now, the Indian bike maker has introduced dual-channel ABS with the Classic 500 and the bike is priced at Rs. 1.99 lakhs (ex-showroom). The addition of ABS (anti-lock braking system) boosts the safety of the Classic 500 with better braking performance.
Apart from the addition of ABS, the Classic 500 remains unchanged in terms of cosmetics as well as mechanicals. Poweing the Classic 500 is the same 499cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that produces 27.2 BHP at 5250 RPM and 41.3 Nm at 4000 RPM which is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. More bikes from the current lineup of RE will be getting ABS gradually as this safety feature is getting mandatory for 2-wheelers in the coming future.
Royal Enfield will be launching the much awaited flagships, the Interceptor 650 Twin and the Continental GT 650 Twin very soon. Before they launch these high capacity bikes in India, they are updating their lineup with ABS. Currently, the Classic 500 ABS will be available only in two colour options but eventually the bike maker will introduce more colours with ABS with varying prices depending on the colour.
