The UV segment recorded growth of 11.92 percent, selling 79,136 units out of a total of 2,98,504 personal vehicles that were sold in April 2018. Growth was hit significantly by rapidly soaring fuel prices, however. Maruti’s Vitara Brezza leads the pack with 10,818 units (April 2017: 10,653).
Hyundai’s Creta has also been recording good numbers for the Korean carmaker. The company sold 9,390 units in April and has sold over 2,50,000 units since its launch, back in July 2015. The demand for rugged UVs continues to remain strong in Tier-2 towns and rural markets. Mahindra’s old warhorse, the Bolero, sold 8,527 units in the month of April and jumped two positions, the company sold 6,358 buyers in April 2017.
Toyota finished in fourth with its Innova Crysta, which sold 7,055 units (April 2017: 6,589). The Ertiga finished in fifth with 5,689 units, owing to its popularity in the taxi and fleet market.
