Suzuki filed a new application for the Katana name as well as the character mark and sword logo at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. At the 2017 EICMA, the company showed off the Katana brand, but as a concept model, which was built based on the GSX-S1000F made by motorcycle designer, Rodolfo Frascoli.
The original Katana bike was first made in 1979 by Target Design of Germany for Suzuki. The name stuck for a lot of sporty touring bikes made from 1981 and 2006. Suzuki had 550cc, 650cc, 750cc and 1100cc Katanas, of which the 1100 was easily the most sought after.
Rumours suggest the upcoming GSX700T could be sold officially as the Katana.
