The end of naturally aspirated 911s is nigh. The eighth generation Porsche 911s including the GT3 will only use turbocharged six-cylinder engines. The Carrera and Carrera S stand to get an extra 10-15hp over today’s models when they hit international markets in 2019. The GT3 will churn out 507hp.

In 2020, Porsche will introduce a hybrid 911 to the range. The flat-six will run with an electric motor that will provide limited all-electric and performance boosting functions.

The 992-generation 911 is same in length as the current 911. Its width will increase slightly due to wider tracks. A slight increase in wheelbase will also be made. It was also spotted testing for the first time in the Arctic Circle.

Although similar to the current 991 platform, the 991 is based on what is being called a new modular sports car platform. It has a modified rear end and will be used under the next-gen versions of the entry level Boxster and Cayman and could influence the design and engineering of the next generations of the Audi R8 and Lamorghini Huracans.

The 992 911s will also have immensely improved aerodynamics with a full-width rear wing. An active front spoiler is also likely.

The 992 will receive even more weight savings than the current generations thanks to a greater prpoportion of high strength-steel and aluminium. Carbon-fibre will only be used in high-end models like the GT2 and GT3.

New electronic control software will make four-wheel-drive versions more efficient.

The interior is said to reflect the second-gen Panamera which arrived in India in March 2017.
