In the recent crash test, the highest selling compact SUV, Maruti Vitara Brezza, has achieved a 4-star rating in the Global NCAP tests. The car is equipped with dual airbags, ABS and Isofix anchorages as standard. These standard fitments have helped the car to score four stars for adult occupant protection and two stars for child occupant protection.
The protection offered for the front occupant’s head and neck was good, the body shell of the vehicle was rated stable and had the capability to withstand more load. However, the ISOFIX anchorages did not meet the Global NCAP benchmark.
The Indian Government’s new crash test standard has raised the level of vehicle safety. Maruti Vitara Brezza when launched was compliant with India’s latest crash test norms. Brezza’s rival, Tata Nexon also scored a 4-star in Global NCAP rating. With the amendment of these type of safety norms and assessment programmes, soon there will be a five-star rated entry-level vehicle manufactured in India.
