The Renegade will be a small and rugged offering from the company. The American carmaker is all set to expand its India line-up to five SUVs by 2020. Interestingly, the Renegade will sit below the Compass in India.
1. Small but big:
The international-spec Renegade is 4.2m in length, 1.7m in height and 1.9m in width. The Creta in comparison is 4.2m in length, 1.6m in height and 1.8m in width, while the Duster is 4.3m in length, 1.69m in height and 1.8m in width. This will make the Jeep Renegade the tallest and widest car in this segment.
2. Compass powertrain:
Jeep will likely offer the Renegade in India with the same powertrains as the Compass. However, the engines will be likely tuned to make lower power figures. The petrol and diesel engines on offer on the Renegade are expected to make around 140hp.
3. Optional four-wheel drive:
The Renegade is expected to come with four-wheel drive as an option. This will enable the SUV to take on some off-roading and live up to its Jeep name.
4. Set to arrive in late 2018:
Jeep smallest offering, the Renegade is expected to arrive in the end of 2018. The SUV’s launch could also be delayed to sometime early in 2019. The Renegade will be assembled at the Ranjangaon plant, similar to the outgoing Compass.
5. Jeep’s most affordable SUV:
The Renegade will sit below the Compass in the company’s line-up. The SUV is expected to rival the Creta and the Duster. However, we expect it to be priced marginally higher than its rivals – around 1 lakh more.
