Bangalore-based start-up, Ather Energy has stated that it will be launching its S340 soon. The company said it will begin taking bookings in June and for now, the scooter will be sold only in Bengaluru. At the end of 2018, the company will announce more cities where the scooter will be sold.
Tarun Mehta, CEO and co-founder, Ather Energy, said that the company had underestimated the challenges involved in development and production of a new product. Hero MotoCorp has also invested Rs 205 crore in Ather Energy for a 26-30 percent stake.
The scooter comes with a waterproof touchscreen, waterproof battery, waterproof charger, parking assist, custom user interface, ‘push navigation’, charging location tracking, CBS, over-the-air updates, an under-seat light and diagnostic alerts. You also get dynamic LED lights that respond to ambient light conditions. The scooter uses a lithium-ion battery pack and offers a range of 60km on a full charge. The company says 80 per cent charge can be achieved in 50 minutes with fast-charging and that the battery will survive for a total distance of 50,000km.
Ather is also working on a charging infrastructure in Bengaluru – it has started installation of charging stations and it will also have provisions for fast charging. The Ather S340 will be manufactured in Whitefield, Bengaluru.
