Audi’s smallest SUV yet could make for a new entry point into the luxury car space. Here are some details about it.

  • Audi Q2: All you need to know

Audi’s latest fledgling, the Q2 is a small crossover that sits below its Q3 SUV. The model is likely to hit our shores, and if it does, it’s likely to be one of the most affordable luxury cars that money can buy.

The Q2 measures 4,191mm long, 1,508mm tall and 2,009mm wide, and weighs 1,205kg – it’s quite a light car!

It’s built on the same set of mechanical bits as the A3 sedan, but its design is edgier than what we have seen in Audi cars, especially when compared to the carmaker’s SUVs like the Q3 and Q5. Up front, the crossover gets a new single-frame grille that’s flanked by squared off headlights. The side-profile looks quite muscular and the blacked-out C-pillar also gives the impression of a floating roof. The rear of the Q2 looks more like a hatchback and features a new set of tail-lights as well.

Luxury car buyers may not find the Q2 to pack the most spacious rear seat, but to address this, Audi have developed a long-wheelbase version of the car. And the good news is that India is likely to get this stretched out version of the Q2 sometime after the regular car is launched here.

Audi offers a wide range of engines on the Q2 abroad. However, for India, the car is likely to arrive with a choice of a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel. These engines could be offered with a choice of both manual and automatic gearboxes.

With the Q2, Audi plans on catering to first-time luxury car buyers, and subsequently draw new customers to the brand. It’s likely to be priced from Rs 25-30 lakh, which is about the price of luxury hatchbacks like the Mercedes A-class and the BMW 1-series.
