The All-New 6-Series GT (Gran Turismo) will replace the current 5-Series GT and BMW has confirmed that it will launch the car at the 2018 Auto Expo.
BMW India plans to sandwich Mercedes’ E-class long wheelbase (LWB) with its 5-series sedan (which will launch at the end of this month) on one end and the 6-series GT on the other. The stretched E-class has been a hit with Indian customers, so BMW plans to launch its slightly longer (by 28mm) and wider (by 42mm) 6-series GT as its rival. The new GT has a more sedan-like silhouette than its predecessor and it’s expected to come packed to the gills with equipment. Local assembly from completely-knocked-down kits (CKDs) allows the company to price this car competitively and really take the fight to the E-class. This strategy worked well for its 3-series (the slightly larger GT model is the bestseller in the range).
The car will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol, a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel and a 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder diesel.
