BMW's 1200 range will be available in India soon and here is what we know about the models that are part of this range, namely the RS, RT, R and GS models. These models are built using the same three-piece chassis technology that consists of a tubular steel bridge-type main-frame, tubular sub-frame.

R 1200 RT
The tourer will be powered by an 1170cc air-cooled, twin-cylinder boxer engine, makes 125hp at 7750rpm and 125Nm of torque at 6500rpm. It is offered in two trims, Standard and Pro. The car makes use of BMW's patented Telelever front suspension that increases riding comfort, is safer and handles sharper and more accurately thanks to 37mm forks and a central spring strut. It stretches out for a total of 2222mm and the recorded wheelbase is 1485mm. It gets new colour options, added bodywork and an adjustable windshield and can hold up to 25 litres of fuel. It's also technologically advanced with features such as a ‘dynamic’ riding mode with BMW’s dynamic electronic suspension, shift assist, ABS Pro, keyless go, central locking for the saddle cases and cruise control. It will also come equipped with shaft drive.

The RT stands for Reise-Tourer which, when translated into English is 'travel tourer'. The standard version of the R 1200 RT is priced at ₹18.5 lakh, whereas the Pro version will be available at ₹21.9 lakh.

R 1200 RS
The R 1200 RS sports tourer is powered by a flat-twin engine, like the one on the R 1200, with an output of 125hp power at 7,750rpm and 125Nm torque at 6,500 rpm. A six-speed gearbox and a rear-centric shaft drive help you maintain this bike’s speed well. The bike's seat height is 820mm. Low and high seat options of 760mm and 840mm, respectively, are available as optional extras. The R 1200 RS will get new air intakes, a centrally positioned radiator and a modified airbox. Coming to the riding experience, the 45mm inverted telescopic forks up front and an adjustable mono shock in the back provide ample support and comfort under even maximum speeds. Safety features include dynamic traction control, automatic stability control and the R 1200 RS cones equipped with two riding modes of Rain and Road and ABS as standard. The Standard R 1200 RS is priced at ₹15.9 lakh and the Dynamic version is priced at ₹16.9 lakh.

R 1200 R
Like the other models of the same range, the R1200 is powered by a 1170cc air-cooled boxer twin with a water-cooled cylinder head and comes with various technological updates. The bike has various riding modes to facilitate riding on any terrain. ABS as standard and traction control, dynamic electronic suspension, shift assist, keyless go, ABS Pro and Dynamic Brake Light are all available as options. The total length is 2165mm and the wheelbase comes up to 1515mm and comes with an 18-litre fuel tank. Seat height can be adjusted according to your needs as an additional option, and can be reduced to 760mm or increased to 820mm. The Standard R 1200 R is priced at Rs 14.9 lakh, the Exclusive at ₹15.4 and the Style at ₹15.5 lakh.

R 1200 GS
With similar engine power as the others, the GS gives a powerful output of 125hp at 7750rpm and 125Nm at 6500rpm. The rear wheels are maintained by the shaft drive and the bike weighs 244kg (wet). The bike gets the Televar suspension system too, with 37mm forks and a central spring strut. Seat height can be adjusted here too by tweaking the suspension. It is 2207mm long, with a wheelbase of 1507mm. Standard equipment available with the bike is an adjustable electronic suspension, switchable ABS, ‘rain’ and ‘road’ riding modes and stability control, ABS Pro, hill start control, dynamic traction control and dynamic brake light. Extra features include ‘enduro’ and ‘dynamic’ riding modes. The Standard R 1200 GS is priced Rs 15.9 lakh, the Dynamic at ₹19 lakh and the Pro at ₹19.5 lakh.

R 1200 GS Adventure
The GS Adventure is a tougher version of the GS. Main differences include a larger 30-litre fuel tank, wire-spoke wheels (as opposed to the GS’ cast aluminium ones), better wind protection, keyless go as standard and more comfortable seating. It is slightly longer than the GS at 2255mm, with a 1510mm wheelbase, and is heavier too, at 263kg (wet).
